These are the answers to the Section 2 Review's Knowledge Check. If you haven't attempted the five scenarios yet, do that first.
Scenario 1: The List Without a Method
Correct answer: A stated technique is missing — per Test Design Interviews, naming Boundary Value Analysis explicitly, before listing values, is what turns a plausible list into visible evidence of a repeatable method.
Explanation: This is the module's own opening scenario restated — the values themselves (0, 1, 99, 100) are reasonable BVA boundaries, but without stating the technique, the interviewer can't distinguish a method from a lucky guess.
Alternative approaches considered: Adding more values to the list doesn't fix the actual gap — naming the method is what's missing, not more cases.
Real-world reasoning: Tests whether "state the method before the cases" was understood as the actual fix, not just "test more boundary values."
Scenario 2: Impressive But Unconvincing
Correct answer: A specific, concrete example where severity and priority genuinely diverge, prepared and ready before the interview — per Defect and Bug-Handling Interviews.
Explanation: This is the module's own opening scenario restated — an accurate definition with no ready example collapses under the natural, expected follow-up question.
Alternative approaches considered: Trying to improvise an example on the spot, without prior preparation, is exactly the risk the module's own guidance exists to prevent.
Real-world reasoning: Tests whether "prepare a specific example in advance" was understood as necessary, not something to improvise under pressure.
Scenario 3: The Blame Frame
Correct answer: The framing centers blame rather than evidence and outcome — per the module's own guidance, a disagreement story should focus on what evidence you brought and what eventually happened, never on characterizing the other person's motives or behavior negatively.
Explanation: This is the module's own central lesson — even a technically justified disagreement reads as a red flag if it's framed around blame rather than your own evidence-based approach.
Alternative approaches considered: Assuming being factually correct excuses blame-framed language misses the module's actual point — the framing itself is what's being evaluated, not just the technical facts.
Real-world reasoning: Tests whether "evidence and outcome, never blame" was understood as the framing rule, independent of who was actually right.
Scenario 4: Diagram, No Reasoning
Correct answer: A concrete, real or realistic example of catching something early is missing — per SDLC, STLC, and Process Interviews, the definition alone doesn't demonstrate understanding; a specific example does.
Explanation: This is the module's own opening scenario restated — accurate terminology with no grounding example is indistinguishable from a memorized phrase.
Alternative approaches considered: Restating the definition with more confidence or detail doesn't fix the actual gap — an example is what's missing, not a better definition.
Real-world reasoning: Tests whether "ground the answer in a specific example" was understood as the fix, not "define the term more precisely."
Scenario 5: Working in Silence
Correct answer: This violates the "think aloud, don't work silently" expectation from Test Design Interviews — an interviewer evaluating test design wants to hear the reasoning process, not just receive a final list.
Explanation: This is the module's own explicit interviewer-expectations guidance — presenting only a finished answer denies the interviewer the evidence of process they're actually trying to evaluate.
Alternative approaches considered: Assuming a correct final answer is sufficient on its own overlooks that the reasoning process is a significant part of what's being assessed in a live exercise.
Real-world reasoning: Tests whether "narrate your reasoning throughout" was understood as an explicit expectation, not an optional nicety.
Sections 1–2 Complete (Implementation Continues)
Across six modules, these two sections established this path's foundation and applied Manual Testing's own technique — test design, defect handling, and process reasoning — directly to interview conditions. Sections 3 through 6 (API/Database/Automation interviews, specialized and scenario-based interviews, communication strategy, and the mock interview capstone) continue in a future implementation phase, per the approved architecture in docs/architecture/LEARNING_PATHS.md.
